Academic workshop for Class IX students and parents

An academic workshop for the students of Standard IX and their parents was successfully conducted on 23rd January 2026 at Vidyodaya Public School. The programme was facilitated by the distinguished resource person Mr. M. Jaikishan Bhat, who addressed important aspects of student development and effective parenting through insightful and engaging sessions.

Session for Students (Standard IX)

Topic: Time Management and Bullying.

The session for students focused on the significance of discipline, self-respect, and positive behaviour. The resource person motivated students to strive for excellence with the message “Be the best and aim to be the first.” He explained the concept of the soul as an individual who maintains purity of thought and speech, refraining from negative thoughts or words about others, both in their presence and absence.

Mr. Bhat emphasized the transformation from an ordinary individual to an extraordinary and immortalized personality through values, integrity, and purposeful actions. An activity-based learning session was conducted to highlight the importance of self-respect, where students were made to realize that compromising self-respect for small benefits is unacceptable.

He further explained that while life is simple, it is not easy, and success depends on taking the right steps at the right time. Students were encouraged to understand that true happiness lies in becoming a source of happiness for others.

The importance of communication was highlighted by stating that words have the power to shape or shatter an individual. A motivational video depicting a Japanese child persevering through challenges with peer support was shown, reinforcing the values of encouragement, teamwork, and determination.

The impact of effective communication was illustrated through the example of Swami Vivekananda’s historic address “Sisters and Brothers of America,” which elevated him to global recognition. The session also addressed stress management, stating that managing stress effectively is essential for a balanced life.

The session concluded with a reflective thought that the two most significant days in an individual’s life are the day of birth and the day one discovers the purpose of life.

Session for Parents

Topic: Parenting and Adolescence

The parents’ session focused on understanding adolescent behaviour and adopting effective parenting strategies. The resource person emphasized that focus and keen observation are the foremost attributes required for success in life. Parents were cautioned that even a single mistake can have long-lasting consequences, highlighting the importance of mindful parenting.

Parents were guided on helping their children lead a peaceful, balanced, and fulfilled life. An activity using identical sheets and instructions resulted in different outcomes, effectively demonstrating that children should never be compared, as each child possesses unique abilities and potential.

Mr. Bhat explained that success can be achieved through various paths—academic excellence, sustained hard work, passion, intelligence, or creativity. He stressed that irrespective of the chosen path, success demands dedication, commitment, and wholehearted effort.

The session concluded with a strong message urging parents to avoid judgment, accept their children unconditionally, and refrain from over-privileging, as excessive indulgence can hinder a child’s personal growth and sense of responsibility.

The workshop proved to be highly informative and impactful, providing valuable insights into student development and effective parenting. The sessions enriched both students and parents with practical guidance, life skills, and motivational perspectives. The programme was well appreciated and contributed positively to the academic and personal growth of the participants.
