ICSE Physical Education Teachers’ Training Programme at Vidyodaya Public School


As per the guidelines of ICSE Board, Physical Education Teachers’ Training Programme for Class X (ICSE) was conducted at Vidyodaya Public School, Udupi, on 21 August 2026 for various schools of Udupi and Dakshina Karnataka. There were 17 teachers across various schools like Sharada residential school , Silas international, New shams school Bhatkal, Glowinstar Udupi, Greenpark school, Sri Siddhivinayak school Hattigandi, Lourdes English medium school , Trinity central school, Alva's English Medium Primary & Higher Primary School etc


Resource persons Ms. Namratha presented the anatomy part of physical education and Mrs. Deepa and Mr. Sunil presented the Sports and games part of it.


The programme aimed to enhance the professional competence of Physical Education teachers through subject-specific knowledge, practical strategies, and effective approaches to teaching and assessment.


The training began with an informative session on Anatomy, conducted by Ms. Namratha. The session focused on the importance of understanding the human body and its various systems in the context of Physical Education. Key anatomical concepts relevant to movement, physical activity, exercise and sports were explained in a clear and practical manner. The session helped teachers connect theoretical knowledge with its application in physical activities and classroom instruction.


The next session focused on Sports and Games, conducted by Mr. Sunil and Mrs. Deepa. The resource persons discussed various aspects of sports and games, including appropriate techniques, rules, skills and effective methods of training students. Practical approaches and activity-based strategies were shared to help teachers make Physical Education sessions more engaging, structured and effective.


The programme also addressed important areas such as:

  • ICSE Physical Education syllabus and examination requirements

  • Evaluation scheme and marking guidelines

  • Subject-specific expectations

  • Common errors observed during evaluation

  • Effective classroom strategies for board preparation

  • Activity-based learning and practical demonstrations


The sessions were interactive and informative, with teachers actively participating, sharing their experiences and discussing practical challenges encountered in teaching Physical Education. The interaction provided an opportunity to exchange ideas and identify effective ways of improving students’ physical fitness, sports skills and academic performance.


The training programme proved to be a valuable professional development initiative. The sessions on Anatomy by Ms. Namratha and Sports and Games by Mr. Sunil and Mrs. Deepa provided teachers with useful subject knowledge and practical insights that can be effectively implemented in their classrooms and sports activities.


Overall, the programme successfully reinforced the importance of knowledge, fitness, practical learning and effective teaching methodologies in Physical Education and equipped teachers with strategies to better prepare Class X students for the ICSE examination.
